Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. To assist with making it a smooth and orderly evening, it is strongly encouraged to complete the digital audition form (link below) and note any roles you would like to be seriously considered for. All attempts will be made for you to read for your character(s) of interest. No callbacks, casting will be announced within a week.
Character descriptions are below; ages are for context but not a requirement. All are welcome. Inclusive casting (aka colorblind casting). British accents are required for all roles, RP preferred. With the exception of tech week and performances, all minors will have a rehearsal curfew of 9:30 pm. Multiple smaller roles will likely be played by the same actor. Rehearsal will be approx. 4 times a week, on weekday evenings or Sundays, schedule tbd based on cast conflicts.
Mr. Bennet (M 50s) The sarcastic patriarch of the Bennet family. Though he loves his daughters, he is often an apathetic father who fails to provide a secure financial future for his wife and daughters. He has a cynical sense of humor that he uses to purposefully irritate his wife
Mrs. Bennet (F 40s) Elizabeth's foolish and unrestrained mother who is obsessed with finding husbands for her daughters. Because of her low breeding and often unbecoming behavior, Mrs. Bennet often repels the very suitors whom she tries to attract for her daughters.
Elizabeth Bennet (F 20) Our story’s heroine and the second eldest Bennet daughter. She is an intelligent and spirited young woman who possesses a keen wit and enjoys studying people's characters and delighting in anything ridiculous.
Jane Bennet (F 22) A gentle and kind-hearted young woman who is Elizabeth's confidant and the oldest of the Bennet daughters. She falls in love with Bingley but is cautious about revealing the depth of her feelings for him.
Mary Bennet (F 18) The pretentious third Bennet daughter. Bookish and pedantic, she prefers reading over socializing.
Catherine “Kitty” Bennet (F 17) The Bennet's girlish and peevish fourth daughter, she is a follower who joins her sister Lydia in flirting with soldiers.
Lydia Bennet (F 15) The Bennet's selfish, brash, and irresponsible youngest daughter. Mrs. Bennet's favorite, she shocks the family by running away with Wickham. ***
Fitzwilliam Darcy (M 28) A wealthy, proud gentleman, the master of Pemberley, who falls in love with Elizabeth and reveals a generous, thoughtful nature beneath his stiff and socially inept demeanor.
Charles Bingley (M 22) A good-natured and considerably wealthy man who falls in love with Jane. He is genial but easily influenced by others, especially by his close friend Darcy.
Caroline Bingley (F late 20s) Bingley's shallow and haughty sister, who befriends Jane and later snubs her. She attempts to attract Darcy's attentions and is jealously vindictive when Darcy is drawn to Elizabeth.
Charlotte Lucas (F 27) Elizabeth's sensible and pragmatic friend who disappoints Elizabeth by marrying Mr. Collins for money and security at the fear of her continued spinsterhood.
Mr. Collins (M 25, may cast up to 40s) Mr. Bennet's ridiculous cousin who will inherit Longbourn after Mr. Bennet's death. A sycophant who worships at the altar of Lady Catherine, his obsequious and foolish behavior is a source of both humor and offense.
George Wickham (M Late 20s) A handsome and personable soldier who is discovered to be a fortune hunter. At first, he appears to be charming, eliciting great sympathy and affection, but his façade eventually cracks when his disreputable past is discovered. He eventually runs off with and is forced to marry Lydia.
Lady Catherine De Bourgh (F 60s) Darcy's bossy, arrogant aunt, who dominates Mr. Collins and entertains hopes that her daughter will marry Darcy. Lady Catherine epitomizes class snobbery.
Colonel Fitzwilliam (M 30s) Darcy's well-mannered and affable cousin who is creates a friendship with Elizabeth but, as a second son of an Earl, openly discloses his needs to marry someone with money.
Mr. Hurst (M 40s) Bingley's brother-in law who does little more than play cards, nap, and drink heavily.
Louisa Hurst (F 30s) Bingley's snobbish eldest sister. Mrs. Hurst spends most of her time gossiping with Caroline and encouraging her pursuit of Darcy and the separation of Bingley and Jane.
Georgiana Darcy (F 16) Darcy's meek but warmhearted sister. He brother has been her guardian for the majority of her life and her guilt over her near elopement has left her shy and full of self-doubt.
Sir William Lucas (M 50-60s) the genial and somewhat excentric neighbor of the Bennets and father of Charlotte Lucas. He is obsessed with having been granted knighthood and delights in playing host and matchmaker.
Lady Lucas (F 50s) Charlotte's mother who is in constant competition with Mrs. Bennet to be the highest standing lady of the community with the best settled children.
Mr. Gardiner (M 40-50s) Mrs. Bennet's intelligent brother and successful London tradesman. His good judgment and practical nature provides guidance and a stable paternal presence for his two eldest nieces compared to their father.
Mrs. Gardiner (F 30-50s) Mrs. Bennet's sensible and cultivated sister-in-law who serves as a wise advisor and guide to Elizabeth Bennet and a surrogate parent to the elder Bennet sister. She and Mr. Gardiner are very happily married.

*** As per the original novel, Lydia elopes with a man significantly older than herself. In this production, there will be no kissing or bodily embracing between these characters. The maximum intimacy will be her holding onto the gentleman’s arm. SPCT has a strict policy to ensure that all members, especially minors, are always safe and comfortable and we have zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior towards minors.

Everyone should be prepared to read scenes from the show. Please note – this is not a “dance” musical; however, we will ask you to give us your best pirouette to gauge dance potential.

Deloris Van Cartier
An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.
Female 25 to 35 African American
Vocal range top: F#5 Vocal range bottom: E3
Mother Superior
The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings.
Female 40 to 70

Sister Mary Robert
A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life. Female 18 to 25

Sister Mary Patrick
A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable. Female 35 to 50

Sister Mary Lazarus
A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris's soul music.

Monsignor O'hara
One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood.

Curtis
A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris's boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence.

Eddie Souther
The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero. Male 25 to 35

TJ
Curtis's nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss.

A nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world, but has her moments of surprising clarity. Female 40 to 60
Sister Mary Theresa
A nun of the convent, the oldest of the group. Decrepit at a glance, but secretly packs a punch. Female 60 to 70
Michelle
One of Deloris's back-up singers. Lippy and always quick with a retort. Female 20 to 30

Tina

Ernie
